As a woman, I find it striking to compare these four women (Sadie included). I'm taking note of each woman's personal histories and current works as a barometer to understanding the representations and definitions of women emerging in 21st century America and juxtaposing that with historical definitions of "womanhood". As Sadie's strong willed voice attests, at this moment, being a girl is (still--and without reason) an insult to being human.
